background
Carl Edgecombe's shift into career services/workforce development was inspired by a student while he worked as a Residence Hall Director at SUNY Oswego, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Vocational and Technical Education. His broad career acumen spans the Caribbean, England and the United States. Carl has held numerous positions as a Career Coordinator, Job Developer/Placement Specialist, Program and Academic Advisor, and Adjunct Faculty for the College Success Skills program at Broward College in Florida. Carl recently served a Workforce Trainer and Early Intervention Coordinator for the State of Maryland, facilitating workshops for unemployed and displaced workers spanning all industries and position titles.
Carl believes that involvement stimulates success. Thus, he supported student services as a Club Advisor and mentor throughout his tenure in higher education. This undertaking allows him to listen and offer suggestions for career growth and academic success to students. Furthermore, Carl has designed and facilitated numerous workshops - independently and in collaboration with other colleagues - for both students and professionals at the local and national levels. These sessions address social issues, career decision making, exploration and development. Carl has been recognized on several occasions for his commitment to student success to include two nominations for “The Endowed Teaching Chair Award” at Broward College. He is also a Competent Communicator through Toastmasters International, an active member of both the National Career Development Association (NCDA) and the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP).
Carl has demonstrated effective leadership at every stage of his career: whether managing a class of 30, a residential facility with over 400 occupants, directly supervising 40 staff members or providing relevant career guidance to individuals and groups of dislocated workers. After 10 plus years of building his skills, proposing money saving initiatives for reform and making significant contributions to organizations and communities by motivating a broad demographic to achieve academic, personal and professional success, Carl is also ready for career advancement and a decision making role where ever the undertaking may be.
